Through our direct partnership with our local feeder schools, we realize that not every student starts school prepared to learn and that not every family can afford the cost of returning to school.
The Housing Authority of the City of Goldsboro (HACG) and our local community partners have made it our mission to ensure that the families living throughout our communities have one less burden to bear. Over the past 8 years, we have provided thousands of HACG youth with the school supplies they need to kick off a successful school year.
Our Back to School Bash events, hosted annually in August by each of our communities, is an opportunity for the whole family to celebrate the end of summer and get excited and prepared for the upcoming school year. The annual event brings our community partners onsite to speak directly with families about available resources and programs that can aid in their family's success throughout the year while providing a table of engaging activities and offering additional free take-home resources/supplies that can be utilized during the school year.
HACG works diligently throughout the year to ensure that proper data is kept on the ages of youth living throughout our communities and uses that information to purchase bulk backpacks filled with school supplies that can be used for our students entering Pre-K through 12th Grade. We also work with individual families to ensure that our youth have the proper attire to start school looking and feeling their best. The events are marketed to include free supplies, community resources to include literacy tools, haircuts and health screenings, games, music, and food. Studies show that children having school supplies of their own can improve grades, creativity, attitudes toward learning, behavior, peer relationships, and self-image.
Our goal of the Back to School Bash events is to ensure that our youth have all the tools needed to be successful on day one and that they start the year off backed by a community that believes in them
